What is SSL?
Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is an internet protocol for delivering information in an encrypted format. This allows information to travel between a client's browser and the web server without worry of someone being able to intercept and read the data. Typically your browser will warn you when you enter or leave a secure (SSL) page, but you can also tell by the little lock symbol shown on your browser and by the https:// protocol delimeter at the beginning of the address that you are on a secure link.
What is a domain name?
A domain name is a unique identifier used on the Internet that maps a memorable name to an Internet Protocol (IP) address. For example: the domain name www.brytesun.com is registered and maps to our IP address here (i.e. 192.168.1.1)
What is DNS?
DNS (Domain Name System/Service/Server) is a system or service that can be used to convert domain names to IPs and vice versa. Typically you register your domain name and IP information with one DNS and then when people look up your domain name they check their own DNS servers for a match, if it's not found there then their DNS servers ask other DNS servers, and so on, until they get a result or give up. Once a DNS server finds a domain to IP mapping it will cache, or store, its findings for a specified period of time. Then, the next time someone does a search that DNS server won't have to go looking. The time that it takes for a new or changed domain name to get spread across most DNS servers on the Internet is typically called DNS propogation time and usually takes from 24-48hrs.
